Out in the woods
2021
Dusseldorf, Germany

A series of 50 photographs documenting spontaneous charcoal drawings made on cut wood stumps in the forest near my studio.
These stumps — once living trees — had been severed, leaving behind raw, open surfaces like scars on the land. Drawn to them, I began making intuitive charcoal sketches directly onto the wood: ghostly faces, forgotten beings, and fragments of memory that seemed to rise from within.
The act was both playful and ceremonial, a way to honor what had been cut down, to give voice to what was lost, and to invite the forest to speak through me.
