KNOW ONE ONLY NOW was made during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time of enforced distance and isolation. For 120 minutes I sat in the gallery in deep meditation, eyes closed, connected by a copper wire to an electrode attached to the gallery window. I channeled my inner world and transmitted it toward the viewer. A viewer could connect by placing a hand on the electrode, and their touch was transmitted to me. Each connection altered the transmission in both directions.
I did not know who was connecting, or when. I responded through changing emotional and physical states, so each encounter was an unpredictable exchange between two bodies, and uncertainty became the ground from which the unknown could arise. Incubated in the gallery in a prenatal state, I extended my will toward the invisible energies we usually do not contact.
The work turns technological connection into a fragile kind of intimacy. It asks what presence can mean when bodies cannot meet freely, and what kinds of contact remain possible across separation. I was fully committed to the present moment, to being in the NOW, and I invited viewers to share that space and experience the presence as it unfolded.
