AQUARIUM ARCADE

2012

An Interactive installation.

Bezalel Academy of Fine Arts, Jerusalem, Israel.

This installation was my Bachelor’s graduation project — a sensory arcade of longing, chance, and cultural memory. I recreated a surreal version of the Israeli street arcade: a lotto booth, a candy machine, and an MP3 station — each representing a different type of desire, reward, or escape.

The MP3 station was made from three old reflex cameras that I transformed into sculptural listening devices. Inside each camera was a speaker. When visitors held the camera up to their ear, they could hear a unique, curated playlist — like eavesdropping on someone’s internal world.

Every station was built using an algorithm and a mix of materials — blending plastic with raw, organic matter. The floor was hand-painted with plastic watercolor, turning the entire space into something fluid and artificial — like stepping into a glowing aquarium.

The installation was interactive. People were invited to touch, listen, play. Without telling people what to feel, the installation opened a space to experience how systems of reward and comfort shape us — often without us noticing.

On this station, each camera was playing a musical chart.
